The crowd’s eyes turned to me, the decidedly thin woman on this body image panel with an autobiographical solo comedy show called, I’M TOO FAT FOR THIS SHOW. I absorbed the blow, initiated by a fellow panelist, then floundered for my voice a moment…

FAT ACTIVISM

Lemme back up. I was thrilled to be invited to speak on a panel about fat activism, a movement which strives to neutralize the unnecessarily demonized term, “fat,” and return it to what it is — a mere descriptor, neither good nor bad.

Thrilled, yes. But also nervous. I didn’t know if my perspective as a former-anorexic would be appreciated or if instead my thin privilege would be held against me.
